Are you part of the 50%? Human vs. AI-Generated Content

Monday night, while brainstorming with my BFF and Partner in crime (by crime, I mean business, not actual crime) about a content calendar and IG profile grid we are working on, we came across this profile with some content we both recognized as AI-generated. And then I wonder: “Is it only us who can recognize AI content straight away?”.

In all honestly, while it does not bother me, I usually tend to find it funny when a piece of content is fully AI-generated. Does anybody else feel like this?

AI-Generated Content—The Feeling

The feelings towards AI-generated content are diverse—in some communities, it can be more of a sin to generate your content using AI while, in others, it is ok—but one thing is certain: AI-generated content is here to stay and will only grow as time progresses.

The acceptance of AI-generated content depends entirely on the audience: how they react to your content—either human or AI-generated—plays a crucial role in shaping your future and your brand. But what if I told you that, as much as we preach about humanizing content, not everyone can tell apart AI from human content?

According to a recent study by Bynder, 50% of consumers can spot AI-generated copy.

The perception of AI-generated content is all over the place: creators and marketers might be more capable of distinguishing between AI and human-generated since we are that familiar with content creation and the online environment. On the other hand, the average person might not notice if something is AI or Human-generated. In some cases, people might know but won’t care where a piece of content came from as long as it provides value.

What is The Point of Staying Authentic?

I get it: it is super easy and super convenient just to go online, open your favorite AI tool, and ask them to create all your captions, posts, and images while you get a coffee and chill; HOWEVER, authenticity is not just about the origin of the content but about the connection it fosters with the audience. Human-generated content often carries personal experiences, emotional depth, and unique perspectives that resonate more deeply with people.

Let’s look back at an example: remember the “Who The F*ck Did I Marry” Series? The reason why so many connected with the story was how vulnerable and human Reesa was while telling this story. Could AI come up with a story like that? Absolutely! There are very complex Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI tools out there—like PlotDot—that can create very complex narratives. Would an AI model be able to transmit the same feeling and vulnerability that Reesa did? Probably not—at least not at the current stage of AI development.

Staying authentic and human has certain benefits:

1. It Builds Trust

When audiences know what they are consuming was created by real people with real experiences, credibility increases, and stronger connections are generated. Trust is the foundation of brand loyalty, and brands prioritizing authenticity are more likely to cultivate a loyal following.

2. It Creates a Genuine Emotional Connection

Humans like to connect and feel. While AI can simulate certain emotions, there is still something missing that only human creators can infuse into their content: genuine feelings, cultural nuances, and personal stories.

3. It Makes YOU Different

Look, EVERYONE AND ANYONE can make a caption using an AI model—quite literally I can ask a 10-year-old child to do it, and, chances are, it will get done—but nobody can be you. Nobody talks like you, thinks like you, or conveys ideas like you. Your unique voice can make your brand different.

Is AI-generated Content BAD?

While lots of people tend to criticize AI usage in content creation, the reality is that using AI to generate content isn’t all bad—far from it—using AI can be incredibly useful for brainstorming, overcoming writer’s block, and even generating initial drafts.

It all comes down to efficiency. The whole point of most technological advances is to make things easier for humans: AI can free up valuable time for creators and users in general. The key lies in striking the right balance.

AI-generated content is not something to be feared or made fun of, actually, AI can help the magic flow. Of course, I have to close this note by saying: do not forget to add your own touch to your content and do as much personalization as you can.
